Very early in the history of the transmission of the text, however, and perhaps in the original publication of the Hebrew, one segment of the text (I 15:15–24) was displaced from its original position after 14:24, probably when sheets were fastened together in the wrong order into a scroll.56 Scholars have rightly been impressed with the accuracy of First Maccabees, though there are several demonstrable errors in the narrative.57 The author is generally well informed on Seleucid institutions.
